Norway becomes a secular state!

Finally Norway becomes a civilised state. Today new legislation puts an end to the “State Church”. This has been a long way to go for the Norwegian Labour party who has enjoyed appointing the Norwegian State Church leaders and thus in their own opinion had an influence over the signals to be expected to come from them. In many ways obviously right, but totally unacceptable in a modern civilised world.

All religious socities in Norway benefit from grants from the goverment. This year the amount per person is GB£ 42.75 per registered member.  The State Church has officially 3,850,000, members. Around 400.000 belongs to other religous socities and about 80,000 are members in The Norwegian Humanist Association.

It will be interesting to see for how long the population will accept so much funds being spent on the churches!
